Horizon Initiative & Miami Beacon Council at the Windsor Court Polo Lounge

Date: Monday, September 17th
Time: 5:00 – 7:00 pm for drinks
Place: The Polo Lounge at the Windsor Court

Dear Horizon Initiative Members and Friends,

The effort to form a separate private Economic Development entity with a long-term vision for the future of New Orleans is closer to becoming a reality than ever before. The City Council recently adopted a resolution in support of a model such as the one that the Horizon Initiative has been proposing (attached above). In addition, next Tuesday, the 18th, the Economic Development Committee of the City Council is holding a hearing from 9 - 11:30 am (at the City Hall Hearing Chamber, open to the public) where representatives from the Economic Development commissions of Miami, Pittsburgh and Lafayette will speak about the models adopted for success in their cities.

We are assembling a group of business and civic leaders to meet Frank Nero, President and CEO, and Julio Piti, Vice President Member/Investor Relations, both of the Beacon Council of Miami, who are flying to our city specifically to testify at the hearing. It will be an opportunity, at this critical juncture, to get some face time with those who have seen this process through, from nascent organization to Economic Development success story . . . to ask questions about how the group functions, and to bounce ideas about how such a group will work for New Orleans.

The time is now to gather the key business and civic leaders of the city to demonstrate their support for the city’s long-term economic development . You, along with select others, can be instrumental in the effort to make N.O. truly The City of YES! We look forward to seeing you on Monday evening.
